The Artist Behind Dreamware
Dreamware Ceramics is the studio practice of Sarah Machemehl, a Los Angeles based ceramicist, artist, and educator. Through Dreamware Ceramics, Sarah creates wheel thrown pottery, tableware, lighting, and home objects. Her work is guided by a feminine aesthetic, and her practice moves fluidly between one of a kind objects, collection based work, and intentionally designed functional ware.
Sarah holds a BFA in Fine Arts from Oklahoma State University, with a concentration in ceramics and a background in drawing. Her professional experience spans both studio pottery and ceramic product design, including production pottery at Farmhouse Pottery and ceramic product design for the luxury home brand Dumae.
Alongside her studio practice, Sarah teaches ceramics and fine art to students of all ages at Viridian Art Academy, sharing her passion for craftsmanship, creativity, and material exploration through hands on instruction and community arts education.

Request a Remake
See something you love in the collections? Many archived or sold pieces can be remade to order. Remakes typically take 9–12 weeks depending on the piece and studio schedule
Commission Something New
Looking for a custom glaze, gift, personalized dinnerware, or a one of a kind idea? Dreamware welcomes commission inquiries and collaborative custom projects
-
Each piece is wheel thrown in small batches, then trimmed, assembled, and lightly sanded before being fired, glazed, and fired again.
Because ceramics move through multiple stages, from greenware, to bisque, to glazed and finished, each piece takes time, care, and a great deal of attention before it’s ready for use.
For custom commissions and made to order remakes, the process begins with an inquiry. From there, I’ll discuss the piece, timing, and any design details before beginning production in the studio.
-
Dreamware pieces are made from stoneware and porcelain clay bodies, and finished with food safe glazes.
Unless otherwise noted, tableware and functional pieces are created to be used and enjoyed in everyday life. All products are food safe, microwave, dishwasher, oven and freezer safe.
-
Custom commissions and made to order remakes typically take 12–16 weeks, depending on the scale of the order, the complexity of the piece, and current studio schedule.
Because each piece is made by hand and moves through several stages of drying, firing, glazing, and finishing, timelines can vary slightly. If you have a specific deadline in mind, I recommend reaching out as early as possible.
-
No two Dreamware pieces are ever exactly alike. Each piece is handmade, which means subtle variations in shape, glaze movement, color, and small details are a natural part of the process. These differences are not flaws, but part of what makes handmade ceramics special.
For remakes and commissioned work, I always aim to stay true to the original piece or agreed upon design, while allowing room for the individuality that comes with working by hand.

Often, yes. Many pieces shown throughout Dreamware’s collections archive can be recreated or remade to order, even if they are not currently listed for purchase. If you see something you love, feel free to reach out through the contact form to inquire about availability, timing, and pricing.

A remake is a new version of an existing Dreamware piece or design you’ve seen elsewhere on the site. A custom commission is a more personalized or collaborative project, whether that means adjusting a past design, creating a custom set, or developing something entirely new.
If you’re unsure which category your idea falls into, feel free to reach out and I can help guide you.
